Email: joshua.larock@gmail.com Join my Mailing List My Story It was not until after college, pursuing an entirely different career in music, that I stumbled onto contemporary people who were still creating classical fine art. Sure, I was acquainted with the household names of the artists in popular culture but being that I was never drawn to them or their work, I had assumed that painting on the level of Michelangelo or the Old Masters was a thing of the past. To my astonishment, a growing network of studios and ateliers had been revived under the cultural surface whose pursuits resonated deep within my soul. These schools were dedicated to the fine techniques of draughtsmanship and painting, committed to the study of nature and the pursuit of the true and the beautiful, and considered it an honor to learn from and build upon tradition rather than completely eschewing it altogether. I heard my true life’s calling in New York City and the technique I studied at the Water Street Atelier under the direction of Jacob Collins has given me the skill necessary to move forward toward that voice. My eyes had been opened to see an entire world of amazing paintings and artists I had somehow never even heard about. I realized that art has an important place in the cultivation of our culture and I was struck with an acute sense that something profound and meaningful had been lost. The work I make, then, is the outcome of my desire to proclaim the true and beautiful, and to join the task of renewing a rich tradition in fine art. To quote Asher B.
